CASE STUDY : Computer Aided Design & Engineering of Marine Lifting Sling Equipment

Our customer approached the Simpact Design Consultants with the request to design & develop a new range of lifting equipment to be used in the marine environment. In addition to the lifting capacity, the main design criterion was low mass. The new lifting equipment is intended for modern yachts.

The amount of water displaced by the hull is equivalent to the mass of the yacht and a main factor in the drag resistance. There is a trend to reduce the mass of yachts by using advanced high strength fibre composites. These materials are particularly vulnerable to concentrated impact loads from lifting equipment.

By using our CAE design tools we managed to develop a new generation of lifting equipment of bespoke quality which sets it apart from the general products in this market.
